No More Army Recruiting!
Apr. 20th, 2007 08:03 pmI got a wonderful birthday present today (even though it's not my birthday - but for someone special, it is). Today was my last day as an Army Recruiter. Now my life here in WI is only related to preparing everything to move to Fort Riley, Kansas, where my home will be for the next three years (or take a year and a half of that and replace it with Iraq).
With that though, it also brings mixed news. Fort Riley's housing office told me that I will not be authorized Basic Allowance for Housing (and likewise Basic Allowance for Sustenance) at Fort Riley, as all E-5 and below live in the barracks unless you're married. I'll still have a conversation with my unit commander when I get there and show him that I have 73 boxes of stuff inbound (and the barracks room won't be able to fit the boxes themselves, much less all the stuff that's in them).
The great part is that I'll have more time in the barracks to work on my next solo album. Recording on the violin is out - unless I go off-base to a recording studio and pay to do it. Heck, practicing is out for the same reason (unless I find somewhere to do it away from the barracks). But, I'll have almost no bills, and I'll still be getting paid.
