My computer has been nuetered.
Nov. 26th, 2005 07:35 pmOr spaded. Or castrated. It's unisex. Whatever applies.
Norton (I want more virii!) was letting virus cultures on my computer. They had a war. "There can be only ONE!"
A different virus protection software (as complete as Norton, except that it's FREE) caught the most senior immortals *gack* erm... virii. So, now, much to my amazement, my computer acts halfway normally. I only had to create a new admin account from scratch (this is what I get from knowing my registry like the back of my hand). Once it was created (by me) I created a user account the hard way. Now these two accounts work the way they're supposed to.
What was nice is that this new software nabbed up some viruses that had been backpacking since I was in Germany. Apparently, they snuck by countless scans, etc. Don't know how the heck they hid from Norton, but they did. This other software took them out quite quickly. I think they were quaranteened by Norton, but Norton couldn't do anything else with them.
So, instead of getting any work done, I've been fixing my computer. I still have to assess what damage (if any) has incurred. Until then, I have one day left to get ready for work again.
