The Land of the Free(tm)
Apr. 7th, 2007 10:29 amIt seems that almost every day, I hear about 'somebody stole my artwork!' or 'somebody stole my music!' or 'my character!' or 'my sentence!' or or or...
When I first published a CD several years ago (you can count 4 now, and add one or two more this year as they come out), I saw Copyright Law as a way to make money. You find someone who takes your stuff then you sue them for court costs plus $100,000 per infringement. Well, somebody increased the limit to $150,000 per infringement.
Freedom of Speech doesn't have to be regulated by the gov't. We're regulating ourselves on a get-rich-quick scheme. What would happen if the limit were raised to $1,000,000 per infringement? Wizards of the Coast would probably trademark the term 'dragon' and start suing anyone who uses the word without prior authorization.
