National Deffense Authorization Act S. 1867

Until this little petition reaches 150 signatures, it won't be quickly viewable at whitehouse.gov for other people to sign, except by direct link.  Here's Rand Paul vs John McCain on the Senate floor about S. 1867:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpfS62zrmAQ - John McCain enters at 13:35.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXbwmqq-6Y4 - here's later in the same debate where McCain infers that anyone who is a threat, citizen or not, should be detained and stands by his bill.  I appreciate his sentiment, but I think the approach is nothing short of entirely wrong.

So, here's the petition.  Please pass it along to those who you think need to at least examine the issue at hand.

99% Declaration - they got it mostly right.

So, I'm reading the Declaration from the 99%... which can be found here:  http://sites.google.com/site/the99percentdeclaration/

I hope that when they form their General Assembly, that they prepare to write each of these as individual bills.  I, for one, do not see the benefit in some of the changes that they're demanding.  However, I'll go through the list of grievances and write down my thoughts.

All the details under the cut... )

Grr!

All right, I'm getting ready to quit watching the news all over again.  Although, Monday will be an interesting day, to say the least.  With only 58% of the American working-age population fully employed, and the downgrade coupled with the threat of a second downgrade within two years is just helping my perceptions of the economy look peachy.

Anyhow, as for m'self, I'm thinking that the only job prospects I have are the ones I make - making games and playing the violin.  At this rate, I don't think anything else is going to go through.

Responsible gun owners: Fix this!

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25479434/

I'm sorry, I've known for a long time you can travel with a gun (though you have to check the bolt of the gun, or all sorts of other limitations) at airports. With Atlanta now making it completely illegal to possess any gun, except for TSA, gun owners have lost the right to be on airport premises with a weapon, and will be charged with a misdemeanor if caught.

Also, since something like this has happened, what happens to all those travelers who follow federal regulations and, while passing through ATL, get charged with a misdemeanor? I think it means anyone passing through there can no longer carry a weapon (but I may be reading into this too much)...

Price of oil... going up right into our kisser...

Or tuckuss (however you spell that)

Ganked from USA TODAY:

Sweet Crude Oil, per barrel, a tail of OMG

20020207 Last time price was below $20 (at $19.64)
20031201 Last time price was below $30 (at $29.95)
20041001 First time price was above $50 (at $50.12)
20050713 First time price was above $60 (at $60.01)
20060417 First time price was above $70 (at $70.40)
20070913 First time price was above $80 (at $80.09)

Nope! No inflation here! Anyone up for finding the average (even for an area) prices on these dates (or months) to see just how ugly things coincide?

EDIT: My little birdie says that oil will cost over $100 per barrel sometime in 2008 - six years and a 500% increase in price.
